Eye & Vision Exams

Generally, you want to visit an eye doctor every two years if you have a vision or eye health problem. If you don’t have an eye problem or noticeable vision deficit, you may not need to go to an optometrist. Eyear Optical in Athens, Brainerd, Shallowford, Cleveland, and Chattanooga, TN, can provide vision and eye health exams as often as you need. Let’s explain what this is.

Vision Exams

We provide patients with vision exams to assess their ability to see at different distances. For this test, we use a phoropter with two lenses you need to look into to see various lines of letters.

This information lets us determine if you have a vision deficit. We’ll then use this information to determine your prescription and suggest contacts or eyeglasses. Finally, we can help you decide which option is for you or if both would be most beneficial to you.

Contact and Eyeglass Fitting

If you need eyeglasses or contacts, we’ll need to fit you to ensure they fit properly and can improve your vision as they should.

We’ll have you look into a specialized device to measure your eyes for a contact fitting. Then, based on the results, we’ll know the dimensions to make your contacts.

On the other hand, if you need eyeglasses, you’ll need to be fitted for them first so they sit on your face properly and aren’t too tight or loose.

Eye Health Exam

Another of the exams we provide is an eye health exam. Our optometrist will use a specialized test that allows us to see inside your eye to look at the retina and other components. We’ll use another test that pushes a “puff” of air into your eye, which our eye doctor uses to evaluate the pressure in your eye and ultimately determine if you have glaucoma.

We’ll also look at your medical history and your family history. This information lets us determine if you have risk factors for certain issues. This can guide us in the right direction as to what you should be tested for and when.
